Great food! Stopped for a late lunch after biking on the Leelanau Trail. I had the big breakfast burrito and it was yummmmy!! The waitress and other staff were very nice and friendly. Overall, a great experience and would recommend it!

I wish I could give it more stars because what I had for breakfast (the Thompson) was delicious, but I cannot. Needless to say, the service was less than outstanding. They would not let us sit outside because the few tables that were unoccupied needed to be saved for the larger parties. Fine. So we sat inside and ordered. It seemed to take awhile and when we did get our food, my husband had some nasty items on his bacon. He asked for some new pieces and it was virtually the same. At that point, we were more than fed up. Great food for me, terrible service. And to top it off, the young lady who took our money had an issue accepting our change because she already put it in the register. She was confused when we said we have the change and need a dollar back. Needless to say, we won't be back.

I want to much to give 45th Parallel more stars, but I truly just cannot, it would be untrue. Four of us came here for breakfast one morning and everything started out just fine; we were greeted, seated, and given water. While we were browsing our menus, we were asked to move to another table which honestly was fine, but pretty unprofessional considering we were settled in. Our waitress seemed extremely young, maybe too young even? She took our drink orders and brought everything to us properly, but my coffee mug had prevalent lipstick stains on it. It wasn't the nicest surprise. I pointed it out, and she exchanged it for me without a word. Just a kind tip: smiling or just saying "Oh, I apologize for that, let me get you a new coffee" would be much better than a glare and quiet turn away. We waited very long for our food; about 40 minutes. This was where I decided that the service needed some serious fine tuning. We were patient and felt that since the workers were so young that maybe they just started or something. We gave them the benefit of the doubt. The food was good- the best part of our experience. Everybody was happy with their meals. So, in the end, had the service been a bit more upbeat and professional, we agreed we would have come back in the future. Sadly, we will likely go elsewhere next time.

Totally average place. We visit Suttons Bay twice a year and I know better to visit this place but since Martha's wasn't open and my kid was hungry we came here. The food is ok at best. DO NOT fall for the Morrell Mushroom Omelette! ...at $15 it's not acceptable for half the bites to not have mushrooms. The omelette was also very small and tough. However they have a great location and I imagine the business rests on that.

The oatmeal is quite possibly the best we have ever had. A great mix of oats, grains, almonds and dried cherries, with a light sprinkling of brown sugar. Your choice if you want cream or milk on the side. The cherry chocolate chip pancakes were also a hit with the family. Other egg dishes all were delicious, fresh, and quickly served.

I would love to have written a review of this charming looking restaurant and candy shop but the hostess was so full of attitude and such a foul person we simply left and went across the street to the Blue Lotus Cafe.

The food at the cafe was great! The best part was walking through the candy store whicjh is attached. What a great selection of unique and delicious candies and chocolate. My wife and kids had an extremely difficult time choosing which fudge to take home with us. All of it was so good we walked out with 7.5 lbs of fudge. Our favorites were the caramel chocolate and the dark chocolate with cherries. The staff was very friendly abd helpful.

We recently stopped here with extended family for breakfast. The breakfast menu is extensive, with a lot of interesting choices like morel omelets -- good choices for vegetarians, too. A little spendy, but that's not unusual in the area. I had a tasty portobello/asiago omelet; I also had a taste of my granddaughter's blueberry pancakes and thought they were quite good for restaurant pancakes. The service was not as enjoyable as the food. The staff that morning was young, inexperienced and easily flustered, and it was obvious that our table of seven was too much for our deer-in-the-headlights teen waitress. Given that the Leelanau Peninsula is a foodie mecca of Michigan, I can't give it more than an average rating despite its better-than-average menu. If you want mildly elevated diner food, it's a good choice in the area, but I wouldn't recommend taking a large party there.

TERRIBLE. The food was standard at best, but the service was horrendous. We waited about 20 minutes for the menu! Then, after we ordered, we waited over an hour for our food. We were a table of 7. Three people at our table got their food first and about 10 min late 3 other people got their food and the last order was forgotten completely! When we complained the manager didn't take any responsibility for the awful service - he blamed the cooks! I would NEVER go there again.

I signed up for yelp just to give this restaurant this review. Three of us put our name on the list to be sat outside for breakfast, and we were told it would be 15 minutes. 40 minutes later we were nowhere nearer to being sat. When a party of 5 came in after us and was seated before us, I went to inquire as to why we were waiting so long. The hostess told us that the party ahead of us had "called ahead", but it probably didn't hurt that we saw one of the members of the other party give the waitress some cash, and then were seated promptly. We left at that point and went somewhere with actual service and who were willing to seat us within the timeframe they quote without any added incentive. I would absolutely not recommend eating here.

Awesome breakfast. I am very picky about my eggs and bacon. The hash brown potatoes were favored and delicious. The bread was whole wheat from Traverse City bread company. The bacon...BACON...was delicious. I'm ready to go back and order a plate of bacon. My spouse also had a great meal. This is my new favorite breakfast restaurant. For quantity it's Spartys, for French breakfast Amis Passororia, for quality and quantity it's the 45th Parelell.

THIS PLACE IS NOT FAST FOOD. I came here, expecting some quick food because it's a "cafe," but it's not. I guess the food would've been fine, but I sat for 60 MINUTES waiting for food. My family was hungry, and they have a mandatory 18% gratuity! Really not worth the wait.

    (1)
  • Jonathan P.

Terrible. We waited for 50 minutes for mediocre sandwiches and our server was rude. One of the worst restaurants I have ever been to.

Best cafe on Leelanau Peninsula, hands down! Recently in the Suttons Bay area for an anniversary, we stopped in for a late breakfast. The Egg Nog pancakes, while they were as huge as your head, they were scrumptious! I highly recommend The Thompson; two scrambled eggs, jalepenos, tomatoes, peppers, and black forest ham covered with cheese. If your order includes toast, you must try the sourdough! We'll be back to the 45th Parallel; the Latitude of Unparalleled Taste.

  • Rene H.

Pretty good service. Clean. BLT was just ok, but I got the butt of the tomato on one half (not worth $7). Coffee/Mocha was terrible according to my husband!

    (2)
  • Gina F.

Good food. Terrible service. We waited nearly an hour to be seated mid-afternoon, even though several tables were vacant (unbussed) when we arrived. Then it took nearly an hour to receive our meal -- including kids meals. Lame excuse after lame excuse. We will not eat here again if we can help it.

    (2)
  • Jennifer T.

Delicious! Had the bacon potato omlette and it was fabulous! My son had the biggest salad I've ever seen and my husband had an outstanding Cherry Tuna salad sandwich. Very good, homemade food. Loved it!

    (5)
  • Marin C.

Great service and tasty foodstuffs. I had a half sandwich (portabella) and cup of soup the other day. The soup was their tomato basil, they talk it up quite a bit in the menu, it was pretty good. Affordable and delicous, they also have a rather tempting bakery case. Cozy place to lunch.

  • Liz K.

Enjoyed a quick little lunch here today after plans to go sledding down a sand dune were thwarted. We walked in 30min before closing (winter hours) and they were happy to seat & feed us. I had a scrumptious french dip - meat was impressively flavored and the cheese fantastically oozy. Good au jus flavor too. The BF enjoyed an angus burger w/ cheddar, lettuce & pickles - it was gone before I even knew it existed. The breakfast menu looks impressive too - am pleased to see they have some seasonal offerings too. Eggnog pancakes, anyone?

We went here on a whim as we were out wine tasting. As my wife jumped out to check the menu, a woman who was exiting took a couple of minutes to tell my wife how great the place was and even highlighted a couple menu items. Good sign. Even though they seem to be known for breakfast, they have a decent lunch menu as well. We were seated pretty quickly and waited on immediately. I ordered the tomato basil soup in a bread bowl and the BLT. My wife ordered the quesadilla. We were both impressed at how fresh everything was, and how everything seemed scratch made. Just a good place to stop for homemade, down home cooking.

  • S C.

Bummer - we were directed to seat ourselves with a wave of the hostess' hand. Soon she came up and insisted we move to a table for 2. The 2-seat tables were jammed in near the drink station, etc. I told her we wouldn't stay unless we had a comfortable table. She shrugged, we departed. I actually had the menu in hand when this all went down. Oh well...

This was the best accidental finds during my recent trip to Traverse City. We were looking for a good brunch place to visit before leaving town, and 45th Parallel was very much beyond our expectations. So many things on the menu looked so good, but I decided to go with the Bridgett's Quesadilla, and I have zero regrets. Here's the description - "Sautéed Portobello mushrooms, grilled chicken, onion, baby spinach and salsa. Served on flour tortilla, finished with fontinella and Monterey Jack cheese and sour cream with tortilla chips." You can't go wrong, and it didn't. They're not kidding about this being a meal. I couldn't even finish it. Everyone in my party that tried it admitted they were a little jealous. It had a good amount of all of the ingredients, they didn't skimp on anything. It was completely delightful and I would recommend it to anyone. The decor is very cozy and not stuffy. The best part of 45th Parallel is that it's connected to the Candy Store. It's brilliant. You go to the cafe and have an unbelievable meal, then you go into the Candy Store to buy all sorts of old style and new candies, chocolate, truffles, and fudge. Well played, 45th Parallel!

  • Bobbi W.

We just had lunch there. Got a waffle. Was good, but had to pay an upcharge of $1.50 for REAL maple syrup! Used the bathroom after lunch. Had I seen the bathroom before lunch, I would have walked out. That was the dirtiest bathroom I have ever seen!

    (1)
  • Jodi W.

A great breakfast joint with decent choices, and nothing that is going to knock your socks off, yet, somehow we love it and keep coming back. The coffee is terrible, so I recommend getting a latte over at Frida's across the street and bringing it in (if you are sitting outside). People are friendly, service is fast, and in the summer, it's fun to sit outside, read the paper, and watch the world zip by. When you're done, you can pop into the candy store next door and buy some nostalgic treats.

  • Heidi K.

Based on the fact we never received our food before we gave up and walked out, I cannot recommend this cafe. Waited about 30 minutes for a table after being told 10-15 minutes. Ok no big deal, it was lunchtime. But then we ordered. We noticed no one else was getting food. We waited. Nothing coming out of the kitchen. An hour later we walked out. The table next to us also walked out. Food sounded good but not worth the aggravated wait. Won't go back.

  • Mary R.

Visited this place on a Monday morning on my way out of town. Cute little server, and an okay breakfast burrito, but all 4 cups of coffee at the table were FILLED with grounds (like, total sludge--ugh) and we never got coffee or water refills. The cinnamon roll we ordered was stale. All around a bummer and not much reason to go back.

  • Seth P.

Food is fine. Not bad, not good. The outdoor seating is a plus. I've eaten here twice. First time was pretty decent. Second time, service was unbelievably bad, mainly the host. Estimated time to seating: 5-10 minutes. Actual time: 30. You know how it goes... you've put in 15 minutes, you gonna leave now? Host keeps promising 5 minute more. Once sat, we waited over an hour from order to food. Please, don't seat more people than the kitchen can handle. Won't ever be back.

    (2)
  • Mike G.

Decent enough mocha, but pricey. Also, a friend related how they charged him $2.65 for salsa on an omelette, on the basis that it was a "vegetable." Sounds like a retiree from the Reagan DOE ended up here.

We stopped by for breakfast on a Sunday morning in August. The outdoor seating was beautiful and there were three different servers handling the outdoor crowd. We had cappuccino, which was fine, the Thompson (eggs, peppers, ham, hashbrowns etc), and the unParalleled Skillet (eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, sausage gravy). Both were pretty good. Enjoyed both. Overall a great breakfast in a great location. Service was operating flawlessly the morning we were there, we noticed none of the problems noted in a number of other reviews during our visit.

It was the worst service I have ever had. The owner called our name once and because we weren't sitting on the benches right outside but were standing only five feet away, he sat another party, thus splitting up our group of 10 among two tables on different ends of the restaurant. It took 20 minutes for us to get our drink orders taken. The bacon was burnt, half our drink orders were forgotten and she never came to check on us and was rude! Our other table ended up having to wait for us for 30 minutes to get done. When I said I probably wouldn't return, the owner said "good! We don't want customers like you anyways" and proceeded to slam my card and pen on the counter for me to sign the receipt. I will never go to this place again nor ever recommend it to anyone! I'm appalled at the reaction from the owner. What a jerk!

  • Megan C.

You wouldn't guess it from the ho-hum diner decor or even from browsing the menu (which is full of so-so sounding standard fare), but the 45th Parallel really makes fantastic food! My hubby and I stopped here for lunch while wandering the shops of Sutton's Bay. He chose a chicken sandwich and I got a salad. We thought they'd be boring, same-old lunches. Little did we know... His sandwich came on freshly baked, griddle-toasted rye bread with giant slices of juicy chicken breast. My salad was full of fresh veggies and had mixed greens to boot (not your standard iceberg or romaine). They had filling portions for the price and when we left, we told the waitress that they need to re-vamp their menus to show off their mad lunch-making skills!

    (5)
  • Jon E.

Not the best place to enjoy a latte or espresso drink. I watched the preparation of the vanilla latte I ordered and was dismayed with their technique and cleanliness. I refuse to call her a barista, let's just call her "server", she used the common trash can, which was full, to bang out the previous puck (lord knows how long it's been there). Which means the portafilter (where the coffee is dosed and tamped) was in physical contact with the GARBAGE. Futhermore, her espresso technique was sloppy and unacceptable (details withheld for the sake of brevity). The medium flavored latte was $4.50. The quality was unacceptable for any price. They need to know the difference between coffee with hot milk and a true latte with micro foam. If they are unable or unwilling to improve the barista skills of their staff, then they should stick to pouring cups of regular joe. If you do want a quality latte, try Deb's across the street (if they are open). I apologize for having to issue a negative review, but consumers should be aware.

The staff and food were exceptional. After balking at the $30 linguine next door, my wife and I popped into 45th. It was great. My new favorite spot in SB. I had a Italian sub. Perfect. My bride opted for quesadilla. Also good. Their salsa is very good - roasty. Our waiter, a young man from TC, was friendly and helpful.

A note to Anjanaette M. I witnessed a similar ugly emotional display by the owner when a guest who was waiting for a table must have checked with the owner one too many times. In response, the owner angrily pointed at his own forehead and said in a loud voice - "does this say dumb ass up here". The waiting guest and his family then left without saying a word.

best food on my entire trip to leelanau county/traverse city. breakfast omletes and french toast were best i've ever had. fresh ingredients, good service, got my take out fast! this is one of those places that should be on diners, drive thru's, and dives! i would go back to leelanau just to eat here again!

Great place for breakfast or anytime for that matter. The breakfasts are delicious and healthy and the service is fast and friendly. It's not a large place, but they do a great business. They have a really varied menu and can cater to meat eaters as well as vegetarians. We really loved this place.

Pretty good service. Clean. BLT was just ok, but I got the butt of the tomato on one half (not worth $7). Coffee/Mocha was terrible according to my husband!

Good food. Terrible service. We waited nearly an hour to be seated mid-afternoon, even though several tables were vacant (unbussed) when we arrived. Then it took nearly an hour to receive our meal -- including kids meals. Lame excuse after lame excuse. We will not eat here again if we can help it.

Oh well...

Great place for breakfast or anytime for that matter. The breakfasts are delicious and healthy and the service is fast and friendly. It's not a large place, but they do a great business. They have a really varied menu and can cater to meat eaters as well as vegetarians. We really loved this place.
